The only letters allowed within a domain name are: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z - 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Spaces are NOT ALLOWED.
Once the domain is registered
All Belizian domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.
It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for Belizian domains.
Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another Belizian domain name registrar.
Background
.bz is the Internet country code top level domain name (ccTLD) for Belize, an independent country in Central America, formerly known as the British Honduras before it gained independence. The overall population for Belize is roughly 320,000 people and its languages of choice are English and Spanish. The GPD for Belize is $2.399 billion. The .bz domain name is operated by the University Management Ltd. and was founded in 2000 to market the ccTLD .bz for Belize. They also promote the domain name .bz as an acronym for "business".
On a first-come-first-serve basis, the .bz domain name is not restricted to just entities connected with Belize. Anybody can register with .bz without a contact or local presence within Belize, with a contract that lasts a period of ten years, of which after it can be renewed for a period of one to nine years.
The registered domain name is deleted and made available to other applicants if the registrant chooses not to renew the contract. If an applicant wishes to renew, they have the right to do so before the registration term expires.
Though registering for a .bz domain and second-level is accepted, an applicant may also choose to register at a third-level beneath a second-level domain label. The sub-domains are as follows:
- .com.bz
- .net.bz
- .org.bz
To register under the .bz top-level domain for Belize, the domain chosen cannot contain more than 63 characters and no less than 3 - and these do not include extensions. They must only contain letters from the Roman alphabet (a-z) and the digits 1-9, including the hyphen (-). However, the domain name cannot begin or end with a hyphen. Offensive domain names are likely to be declined.
