101 Domains Domain Information Update ".vg" domains.

Caribbean domains: British Virgin Islands (.vg)

Important: When entering your search string don't write “www” or the British Virgin Islands domain type, ie. “vg”. Therefore to search “www.101domains.vg” enter “101domains” and nothing else.

The only letters allowed within a domain name are: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z - 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Spaces are NOT ALLOWED.

Once the domain is registered

All British Virgin Islands domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for British Virgin Islands domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another British Virgin Islands domain name registrar.

Background

.vg is the Internet country code top-level domain name (ccTLD) for the British overseas territory of the Virgin Isles, found to the east of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean. It is operated by AdamsNames, a company who also run the country code domain names for the Turks and Caicos Islands, and Grenada. Though the .vg domain name is intended for residents of the British Virgin Islands, one does not need to be present in the country in order to register under the .vg domain. There is no limit to the amount of domains a registrant may want.

To register with the .vg domain the following criteria must be met:

  • Characters used in the domain must be from the Roman alphabet (a-z).
  • The only digits allowed are from 0-9, including the hyphen (-). However, the hyphen may not be used at the beginning or at the end of the domain.
  • Due to the International Domain Name's (IDN) punycode, a hyphen may not be placed in the third or fourth place of the domain name chosen.

A license for the specific domain name chosen by the registrant, when accepted by AdamsNames, is given, allowing the registrant to use the domain name for a set amount of time. If the contract is breached, AdamsNames have the right to cancel the license. The rules are as follows:

  • The domain name cannot be used to cause confusion with internet users;
  • None of the agreements of the Terms & Conditions are to be broken by the applicant;
  • The domain name chosen cannot endanger the operation of the Top Level domain;

After the decision to cancel a contract is made, AdamsNames will give the applicant a seven day notice.
