101 Domains Domain Information Update ".vu" domains.

Oceanian domains: Vanuatu (.vu)

Important: When entering your search string don't write “www” or the Vanuatuan domain type, ie. “vu”. Therefore to search “www.101domains.vu” enter “101domains” and nothing else.

The only letters allowed within a domain name are: a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z - 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. Spaces are NOT ALLOWED.

Once the domain is registered

All Vanuatuan domain names registered with us are stored on our international server. Domains registered with us are automatically provided with their own under-construction page - this notifies potential registrants that the name has been acquired and is now registered. The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for Vanuatuan domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another Vanuatuan domain name registrar.

Background

.vu is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Vanuatu. The .vu domain has been delegated to Telecom Vanuatu Limited (TVL). TVL has been working together with the VU Network Information Centre (vuNIC) in handling the domain since 1998. The domain is run closely following the guidelines set by the Internet Assigned Names Authority (IANA). TVL and the vuNIC both operate in the interests of the people of Vanuatu and reserve the right to decline and terminate applications that could be used to damage the VU domain. Should an agreement be revoked after the domain has been delegated, the customer will receive notification by email and will receive a pro-rata refund of the original registration charge.

The VU domain registry runs a strict anti spamming policy on all its domains. In purchasing a VU domain, you agree to not use the site for the purpose of unsolicited bulk emails and excessive levels of spamming. In the event of these activities being carried out on a VU domain, TVL will contact the registered owner insisting that they cease using their domain for this purpose. TVL may revoke the domain registration if they deem it necessary to preserve the integrity of the VU Top-level Domain.

The customer may use their domain as soon as they complete the registration process. However, the registration will be officially completed as soon the customer receives an email from TVL confirming that their payment was successful.

The VU domain has now been running for many years and has remained stable. Although the Vanuatu TLD is not part of the gTLD scheme (generic top-level domain), it will continue to run unaffected by upcoming changes and additions regarding the domain name system.

The vuNIC has reserved a number of VU domain names for copyright and trademark purposes. Should you discover that the domain you wish to register is one of these reserved domains, you may contact the vuNIC for further information at hostmaster@vunic.vu. Other than the reserved domains, all others are available to be registered on a first come first served basis.
