The under-construction page is offered free of charge and may be used indefinitely.

It is possible for Web and/or Mail forwarding to be provided for Swiss domains.

Domain transfer/release fees are charged are by a majority of registrars, but 101 Domains make no charge to transfer a domain to another Swiss domain name registrar.

Background

.ch is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Switzerland. It is administered by SWITCH Information Technology Services.

Registrations of internationalized domain names have been accepted since March 2004 (see details) and its based on chronological order system, in other words the "first come, first served" basis. A valid request for registration of a domain name must contain complete and accurate information about the holder and the billing contact this information needs to be up to date. If a technical contact or name servers are indicated at the time of registration, these must also be up-to-date and contain the complete and accurate information.

For a domain name to be used, SWITCH must be given at least one functional, correctly specified and configured name server even though the standing recommendation is two. The name servers must be registered with SWITCH in advance and may their name may only consist of characters in accordance with Annex. The domain names and name server details will then normally be transferred within the following 24 hours.

You can register a .ch domain name without being Swiss and without you or your business being stationed in Switzerland. This is a good thing for international companies etc but one disadvantage is that when you encounter a .ch domain name the organization or person behind it may not necessary be Swiss and hence the page may not be related to Switzerland at all.

Today SWITCH supports over 300,000 customers. And provide the following services:

• Administrative processing of new domain name registrations and annual renewal of existing subscriptions

• Maintaining the domain name database

• Customer support, invoicing and collection in German, French, Italian and English

รข•Smooth and uninterrupted operation of the primary and secondary ch. and li. nameservers, which ensure a stable DNS (Domain Name System) and guarantee accessibility to the .ch and .li domain names

SWITCH represents the interests of the Internet Community in a number of European bodies such as ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), CENTR (Council of European National Top-Level Domain Registries) and the IETF (The Internet Engineering Task Force)

SWITCH adopts an open-minded approach to change and in the Internet Identifiers division, it also develops new, enhanced services for both universities and the wider public on an ongoing basis.
